| Fort MacArthur 2005 | I'm the Medical Officer on the Athena. I signed up with our Captain when she was with the Ulysses, and was transferred over.
I started with the original Star Trek series, and I guess those are still my favorite characters. I've liked science fiction since childhood - it made you consider other possibilities, philosophies, and alternate ways to view the world, time, people and places.

| 1920's Night Dance | The works of Heinlein, Bradbury, Asimov, and the rest kept me from ever becoming narrow minded. So I was struck by how this show, despite the limitations of commercial TV, still managed to stay true to the core of good science fiction. This, and the Apollo program, started me thinking about what such a future could be like - if we only had a warp drive.
Looking back now on all those years, I think the original series is still my favorite, despite the wooden knobs, salt shakers, etc. (Hey, if you want really hokey effects, try "Tom Corbett: Space

| House of Gordon | Cadet") I do think I prefer Jean Luc as the Captain though. My favorite films? I guess Star Trek II, IV, and the one with the Borg Queen. In my everyday existence on this planet, I have degrees in dentistry and public health, so I work as a dentist in a friend's office, and also travel around southern California inspecting dental offices as a quality assessment person for an insurance company (now this job has a Star Trekky feel - I go from place to place in a vehicle, spend a few hours at each location with people whom I'm unlikely to ever see again, then go on my way). One thing though - I always wished I could practice clinical dentistry the way Dr. McCoy practiced medicine in the show - "Initiate sterile field" (no gloves, masks, etc. necessary, and no mess to clean up.)
Outside of Trek, I have a broad range of interests, including singing, horses, rollerblades, playing tour guide for visitors, and exploring natural and man made wonders. When I'm not "trekking" on the job and can socialize, you'll likely find me on the dance floor - lindy hop, ballroom, Scottish, Victorian - just put me in the holodeck with Riker in the band, Data singing "Blue Skies", and Jean Luc in his trench coat.
So no worries, Captain Kirk, I do have a life. |
