Aquarium of the Pacific October 22, 2005 Long Beach, CA
The Aquarium of the Pacific is one of the best examples of its kind in Southern California. It features Southern California, Baja California, North Pacific, and Tropical Pacific sea life. Since the Athena likes to adopt animals through their endangered species program, we made our first visit in 2005 and had a blast!
Giant red jellyfish.
Lots of white and pink jellyfish.
Juanita and Dave finish up with the jellyfish. One of my favorite sections!
Dave, Juanita, and Marya in front of the floor-to-ceiling aquarium in the lobby.
I hop into Juanita's spot.
The beautiful California coastline (under glass).
Tiny fish that looks just like seaweed!
Moray eel and lobster.
Sea urchins and abalone.
There's a live baby shark in there!
Sharks, fish, and coral.
Beautiful sea anemone.
A playful sea lion - LOVED that pumpkin.
Marya in Lorikeet heaven.
John prefers the Lorikeets keep their distance. Don't worry, John, they won't hurt you...much.
Juanita has a Lorikeet visitation. It takes some determined arm waving to exorcise the beast.
It nibbles on her nails. One bit me!
Dave feels up a sting ray.
Nursery for baby sharks. Hmm.
Big shark vent, Dave and Marya dry off.
Sea turtle.
Sand fish? Sand eel?
One of the extremely playful and hyperactive otters. It's actually in one spot!
Pablo and his family watch the otters bounce around like ping pong balls.
A huge life-size replica of a blue whale hangs the length of the hall in the lobby.
Starfish vacation retreat. Looks like it takes all kinds.
At lunch, Marya is ready for some food!
John, Reid, and Juanita crack up.
Juanita and Dave listen to Marya's pithy puns.
Pablo and family. We met up with them and the others in the cafeteria!
Mandy and Marya.
John and Reid.
Tropical Pacific display. Gorgeous.
Coral haven. I wish I saw that in the wild!
Giant clam, about 1 foot. It's just a BABY.
More coral shelf.
